Powerful Thoughts are Creative

0

What if our thoughts manifested immediately? No lag time whatsoever?

Imagine.

We could immediately be swimming with dolphins in the Bahamas, or skiing down the best powder run in Colorado, or dining on delicacies with good friends on the patio of our dream home.

Or.

We could immediately be handed a pink slip, or receive a dire medical diagnosis, or stall on the freeway, or lose close relationships due to resentment, misunderstandings and long-held grudges.

Stay with me here.

Here’s the thing. Or rather, here are the two things:

The first thing: Our thoughts are creative. We start with an idea…
•    Wouldn’t it be neat if I could put a bay window in my living room?
•    I want to be a concert pianist when I grow up.
•    Peace on earth

Or

•    I am worthless. I will never amount to anything
•    I want to feel healthier, but I just can’t stop overeating. I have always been that way; I guess I always will.
•    I’m sure I’ll have a heart attack before I’m 50. My dad and all my brothers did. It’s just in our genes.

Regardless of the thought, positive or negative, our brains diligently go to work to help us bring this thought into reality. Our brain communicates this message to each cell of the body so that it, too, can help make the thought a reality. We start to seek out confirmation in the external environment that this thought is, indeed, “true”. As the mind continually reviews the thought, it becomes a patterned, habitual thought, and thus, more powerful. With this powerful, repeated thought, we begin to take action to bring this thought to fruition.

The second thing: We are very seldom present and attending to the task at hand, whether it is writing a report, cooking dinner, or helping the kids with their homework. Usually, our minds are drifting off somewhere in the past, reliving a past grievance, or worrying about the future. And while we rarely experience the present moment, our far away thoughts are inevitably focused on negative topics evoking negative emotions – guilt, regret, resentment, anger, worry, fear, apprehension.

So here’s what I think:
If we were immediately “rewarded” with our minds’ creation, we would get really good at avoiding negative thoughts.  We would learn really quickly to have laser-focused thoughts.

And we would become so secure in our ability to manifest our thoughts that we wouldn’t have to be ruminating on thoughts so darn much of the time. We could actually come back to the present moment, experience it fully…and enjoy it, savor it.

But we can’t manifest our thoughts immediately. You may think that’s where the whole thing falls apart. Perhaps. But really, it is just an exercise to demonstrate the powerful effects that your thoughts have on you…whether immediately or some time in the future.

In that awareness, we can begin to change the quality of our thoughts. Bring your awareness to your thoughts throughout the day – what are you thinking, what are you creating? Once you become more aware of your mind’s constant activity, you can ask yourself the question, “are these thoughts beneficial to me?” You begin to be able to choose thoughts that are more life-enhancing.  And most importantly, being aware of what your mind is up to allows you to more easily shift your focus away from resentment and worry and back to the fresh, novel experience of the present moment…where all things are possible.

You are what you repeatedly (think, say, and) do. Excellent, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.  -Aristotle
